Strategy

After its first decade of existence, GAVI has approved a new strategy to guide its mission for 2011-15 and beyond

GAVI’s strategy is not a static process. It is a roadmap designed to help the Alliance respond to changes in the vaccine landscape and set clear milestones en route to the mission goal of saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health through better access to immunisation.

While GAVI’s mission has remained unchanged since its launch in January 2000, the Alliance’s strategy can be divided into three distinct phases of activity:

  • Phase I (2000-05)
  • Phase II (2006-10)
  • Phase III (2011-15).

This section details the Alliance’s new strategic goals, objectives and operating principles for the next five years (2011-2015) as well as providing an overview of GAVI first five years and the Alliance’s initial strategy (2006-2010).

We also explain GAVI’s new vaccine investment strategy, developed in 2008, to identify which of a new generation of vaccines should receive GAVI support to accelerate their introduction into the world’s poorest countries.
