How to apply
The GAVI Alliance has opened a new round of proposals for New and Underused Vaccines
The deadline for submission is 15 May 2011.
Applications for New and Underused Vaccines can now be entered into the GAVI Online Country Portal at https://AppsPortal.gavialliance.org/PDExtranet/
The GAVI Online Portal is a centralised location for submitting applications for New Vaccines Support (NVS) and Annual Progress Reports (APRs). Each country will have a dedicated space for its own documents (current and previous proposals, APRs) as well as access to GAVI application guidelines and other useful documents such as WHO procedures. Secured access credentials have been communicated to each country.

Timeline
To help guide planning, please note the following timeline related to the new round:
- 15 May 2011 – deadline for GAVI to receive completed applications.
- June 2011 – GAVI donor pledging meeting. Overall level of funding available for new proposals will be known after this meeting.
- July 2011 – Independent Review Committee meets to review and make recommendations on all completed applications.
- August 2011 – based on fundraising efforts, funding envelope for 2011 NVS applications to be determined.
- September 2011 – GAVI Executive Committee (EC) approvals will be made and countries notified. If sufficient funds are not available, the prioritisation criteria approved by the Board in June 2010 will be applied by the EC in this process.
General criteria for funding New and Underused Vaccines
- Well functioning inter-agency coordination committee (ICC) or national health sector coordination body for health systems strengthening (HSS)
- Application submitted by ministry of health and endorsed by ministry of finance and the relevant national coordination body
- Evidence that the proposed support from GAVI is fully synchronised with national planning and budgeting processes
- A comprehensive multi-year plan (cMYP) for immunisation in place, synchronised with the health sector strategic plan, including:
- Situation analysis of the immunisation programme
- Rigorous analyses of the current and future costing and financing
- Plan to reduce vaccine wastage and drop-out rates, and a strategy for improving immunisation safety
- A satisfactory report on the utilisation of GAVI support in the country annual progress report (condition for continuation of support).
