Investing in immunisation through GAVI: the Evidence Base

GAVI's interactive version of the Evidence Base publication allows you to navigate through the document by chapter and search by topic.

In its first 10 years, GAVI has achieved remarkable success, bringing together the specialist skills of all the main global players involved in immunisation to:

  • reverse what 10 years ago was a downward trend in global immunisation rates to the extent that, in 2008, a record 106 million children were vaccinated.
  • change the way that vaccine manufacturers think about developing world markets by raising significant additional new resources for immunisation and focusing on the world's poorest countries
  • reduce the delay that has historically characterised new vaccine introduction in low-income countries
  • avert over five million future deaths in one decade with the potential to double that number in the next five years
  • draw on the strengths of GAVI's unique public-private partnership to find new ways of approaching development financing and programming

To view evidence of why investing in GAVI makes a difference, including case studies, data and graphs, and learn more about the extraordinary power of vaccines to improve health in developing countries, click through our interactive version of the publication 'Investing in immunisation through the GAVI Alliance: the Evidence Base' (June 2010).
