From its inception in 2000 to December 31 2010, GAVI has disbursed US$2.8 billion to over 70 countries. Over the same period, GAVI Alliance support has helped prevent over five million future deaths through routine immunisation against hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and pertussis (whooping cough), and one-off investments in immunisation against measles, polio and yellow fever; many more have been protected against debilitating illness and disability.
